With bright blue skies overhead, 144 golfers checked in about 10:30 on June 29, 2015 for the 2nd Annual Golf Tournament to benefit The Dream Factory of the Jersey Shore and Strikes Against Sarcoma, a non-profit organization that provides support to families battling cancer.
The event was held at Bella Vista Country Club in Marlboro and sponsored by TATA Elxsi Limited. Golfers were treated to Bella Vista’s famous BBQ lunch, which was sponsored by Alcatel-Lucent. Lunch was followed by a shot gun start with 18 holes of golf including a cart as well as beverages and snacks all afternoon.
Special guests included Fred Baxter, retired tight end from the NY Jets and Super Bowl XXXVIII winning New England Patriots. Parker Bohn III, professional PBA bowler. There were special holes with prizes, including for a hole in one, the chance to win an Audi 4 from Ray Catena Audi of Freehold. Two other holes had contests to win a rangefinder.
Golfers were joined by about 50 friends and family in the Club’s open-air pavilion for the cocktail hour and gift auction. The cocktail hour was sponsored by Infosys and Encon Mechanical. Prizes were given out for closest to the pin, longest drive and others. The winning foursome was Don Collins, of Jackson, Bruce Himelman, of Waretown, Rick McGarry, of Point Pleasant, and John VanWaalwijk, of Manahawkin.
Assemblyman David Rible (R-30) attended the cocktail hour and presented both organizations with a State of New Jersey Proclamation citing the charitable work they do. Donations were made to several organizations including: Step Up For Sarcoma, Michael’s Feet, The Fred Baxter Foundation, and The Parker Bohn III Scholarship Foundation.
After dinner, which was sponsored by Magna-Care, over 75 guests went home with prizes from the gift auction and 50/50 raffle. The event was a huge success raising money for the organizations with special thanks to some very generous sponsors including Capsugel, Quali-systems, ARRIS, Weichert Realtors and Change of Heart Cardiology.
